Dhaka was shaped by its rivers, but the Buriganga today reflects the environmental cost of rapid urbanization. A City That Forgot Its River documents a waterway increasingly overwhelmed by industrial expansion, plastic pollution, waste and unplanned construction. Through documentary photography, the project follows the people who continue to depend on the river for transportation, work, recycling, bathing and everyday survival. Children swim in polluted water, informal workers recover materials from the river, and families live along heavily contaminated banks because the river remains an essential source of livelihood. The series looks beyond environmental destruction to examine the relationship between the river and the communities that have grown around it. By bringing together human stories and the changing landscape, the project reflects on urbanization, environmental justice and the resilience of people living alongside a river whose health is rapidly declining.
